"Both explosions were carried out by female suicide bombers," the Russian Security Service"s official statement said.

The Investigative Committee said that at least 35 people have died and another 33 were injured in the morning blasts.

A police source earlier said that an explosive device equivalent to 500 grams to 2 kg of TNT was detonated in the Moscow Park Kultury station adding that the bomb was detonated at 100-120 centimeters in height, or at approximately chest level.

The source said that most of the victims of the blast were young people.

Two blasts in Moscow"s subway stations Lubyanka and Park Kultury occurred during rush hour with an interval of 40 minutes, the first one at approximately 8:00 a.m. Moscow time (5:00 GMT).

Emergency services are working at the scene and investigations are still underway.
