A minibus carrying nine people collided with an Infinity car with five passengers on the Don Federal Highway, which links the capital Moscow with southern Russian regions and port cities.

"Two people from the minibus and one from the car died on site. In addition, a child was injured," the source said.

He added that another female minibus passenger died on the way to hospital.

The cause of the accident is being established.

The network of Russian highways is one of the world"s longest, but only 20% of regional roads meet international safety standards. The 1,167-km Don Federal Highway (M4) is considered one of the country"s most dangerous.
