Sergei Ananev met his 22-year-old victim-to-be through a cell phone text messaging service in mid-2008, the newslab.ru website reported, citing local prosecutors.

Investigators say that in January 2009, after pretending to have fallen in love with her, he asked the girl to lend him 3,000 rubles ($100). The girl, who has not been named, subsequently came from the neighboring Mansky District to Ananev"s apartment.

However, in place of flowers and warm words, the girl was met with a barrage of blows from a hammer, police say.

Ananev emptied the girl"s purse and stole her digital camera and cell phone. He then buried her body in the snow.

A few days later, in need of fresh funds to feed his habit, Ananev returned to the burial site to dig up the corpse and take three gold earrings from it. In order to make his task easier, he used an ax to cut off the head, which he disposed of in an abandoned building.

He then pawned the earrings and spent the money
